The Walks

The walks are all based in the Swansea area from Swansea Bay to the Gower and up through the Swansea valleys to the lower Brecon Beacons. Listed below are the current walks available, dates they will be run on and individual pricing information for each walk and experience. At present I am only able to take cash or cheque payment but hopefully I will have a card payment option in the near future. Dogs are most welcome unless specified in the details below. Dog owners must be responsible for the welfare of their pets whilst walking and must take into consideration the likelihood of meeting farm animals and other dogs whilst on the walk and, if the walk is of a long duration, whether their pet is capable of the distance and terrain. I would also welcome children but again parents must be responsible for their children and take into consideration the distance and terrain covered in each individual walk. If unsure please ask before booking any walk experience.

This walk includes some hills in and out of the valley and along the coastal path but should be suitable for most people regardless of their ability or previous walking experience but is probably not recommended for complete beginners. Care needs to be taken when walking through the valley because it is littered with many rocks and boulders which can be slippery especially after wet weather. Stout footwear should be worn because of uneven surfaces and possible muddy conditions. Public conveniences are situated at Pennard Cliffs but unfortunately there are none on the route of the walk itself but it may be possible to use the facilities at the public house in Bishopston.

The walk should take around 4 - 5 hours and will start at 11:00 AM. There is ample parking in the National Trust car park at Southgate and for those taking public transport you need to catch the number 14 bus from Swansea Quadrant bus station. The bus to catch on a Saturday morning will be the 10:05 AM bus from bay U. Returning buses leave Southgate at 10 minutes to the hour until 4:50 PM.

Prices:

Walk including optional meditation session - £35 per person

Card reading sessions - £5 per person

This walk will be run initially every Saturday until further notice

Walk 1:

Bishopston Valley and Pwlldu

This walk starts and ends at the National trust car park at Pennard cliffs. We will meet outside the Three Cliffs Coffee shop and stores for a briefing before embarking on a figure of eight walk through the Bishopston valley and on to the secluded beach at Pwll Du before returning along the cliff path to Pennard Cliffs and Southgate.

Withdrawn until further notice

Walk 2:

Pontardawe, Swansea canal and the Gleision mine memorial

This walk starts in the Swansea valley town of Pontardawe and follows the Swansea canal north where we cross the main road and join the line of the old railway and pause by the memorial that commemorates the loss of the Gleision miners in 2011. We then follow the line of the old railway (now part of the national cycle network) back to Pontardawe.

This walk is mainly on the level and is suitable for all abilities. Care needs to be taken however because we have to cross a couple of busy roads. The walk will leave from Pontardawe square outside the arts centre after a briefing at 12:30 PM and should take around 2-3 hours. Public conveniences are situated in Pontardawe but unfortunately there are none on the route of the walk itself.

Parking is available in Pontardawe but for those using public transport you need to catch the number X50 or X51 services from Swansea Quadrant bus station. These leave Swansea at half hourly intervals at 10 mins to and 20 minutes past each hour throughout the day. Return buses leave Pontardawe at half hourly intervals at 18 minutes to and 12 minutes past the hour throughout the day. Service 132 also connects Neath at half hourly intervals.

Prices:

Walk including optional meditation session - £20 per person

Card reading sessions - £5 per person

This walk will run on Saturday 5th September 2015 and then every other Saturday from 26th September 2015 until further notice

Walk 3:

Mumbles and Caswell

This walk starts in Oystermouth at the western edge of Swansea Bay. The walk visits nature reserves of the area and follows the coast to Caswell bay before turning inland to return to Oystermouth by crossing Clyne common. We will be stopping for lunch and a meditation opportunity in the wooden roundhouse in Bishops wood near Caswell. There is a long period of history to explore here from the castle at Oystermouth to the WWII anti aircraft battery of Mumbles hill.

This walk does include some hills including a climb to the top of Mumbles hill and some undulating sections along the cliff path. It should be suitable for most abilities and the climbs are not overly difficult. We will meet for a briefing by the telephone box and cycle racks behind Boots at Oystermouth Square at 10:30 AM before starting the walk which should take 3-4 hours. Public conveniences are situated at Oystermouth and also along the route at Limeslade Bay, Langland Bay and Caswell Bay.

Parking is available in Mumbles and Oystermouth but it can get busy in the holiday season. There is a very regular Bus service to and from Swansea's Quadrant bus station with routes 2, 2B, 3A and 37 servicing the Square area.
